What do screenshots of the screens show, and how long are they kept?

Privacy and security

A screenshot is an image of what a screen is showing at that moment. It lets you check remotely whether the right template is running. The screen's app doesn't use a camera.

Who can request screenshots

People with the Owner, Admin or Screens role request screenshots. You do this under Screens with Capture, and on an individual screen with New screenshot. Someone who only looks after selected screens only sees and captures those. For each screenshot, the Studio records who requested it.

When no screenshot is taken

The screen doesn't capture anything while someone is using it:

  • during a payment at the terminal
  • while a donation page is open
  • while the screen is in editing mode
  • until 15 seconds after the last touch

The Studio then shows “Screen in use”, and the screen keeps trying. If it doesn't work within two minutes, it shows “Failed”. The Studio doesn't learn what is happening at the screen.

The statuses of a screenshot

How long screenshots are kept

  • at most 14 days
  • at most 20 per screen. When a new one is added, the oldest one is removed.
  • If a screen is decommissioned, we delete its screenshots immediately.

Screenshots can only be viewed in the Studio. The legal basis and the retention period are set out in section 11 of our privacy policy, which is available in German only.
