Transfer ownership to another person
Community and core detailsEvery community has exactly one owner. If the board changes, you transfer ownership to another member. The subscription, the payout account and all permissions go with ownership.
Before you start
- You're the owner of the community, and the community has been approved and is active.
- The person taking over is already an active member of the community. If they aren't yet, invite them first. Here's how: Invite someone to the team.
- Someone reads the community's contact email. That's where the confirmation code is sent.
Start the transfer
- Step 1: Open Settings and go to Ownership and leaving.
- Step 2: In the Owner row, click Transfer.
- Step 3: Under Who takes over?, choose the member. Under Reason, you can enter an occasion, for example a change of board. It's shown in the activity log.
- Step 4: Click Start transfer and confirm the follow-up question once more with Start transfer.
For security, the transfer requires a recent sign-in. If “For security, the transfer needs a fresh sign-in.” appears, click Sign in again. Then start the transfer again within five minutes.
Confirm the takeover
The confirmation code is sent by email to the community's contact email, not to the person taking over. The subject line begins with “Eigentümerwechsel bestätigen” (Confirm change of ownership). The person taking over enters the code:
- on the “Your communities” page under Pending items, with Enter code and Take over ownership
- or, if they're allowed to open the settings, there under Ownership and leaving with Confirm takeover
Only then does ownership change.
What applies afterwards
The new person is the owner. The previous owner stays in the team with the “Admin” role. The activity log records the change.
Withdraw the transfer
As long as the code hasn't been entered, the Owner row shows that the transfer is in progress and until when. With Withdraw, you cancel it.
For an overview of the owner's role, see Who is the owner and how does ownership change hands?.
