Take a screenshot of a screen
ScreensA screenshot is an image of what the screen is showing at that moment. This lets you check remotely whether the right template is running. Anyone who may manage screens can take screenshots.
How to take a screenshot
- One screen: On the Screens page, click the camera icon at the bottom right of the image. Or open the screen and click New screenshot.
- All screens: Click Capture all. If you only have one screen, the button is called Capture.
- Some screens: Move the mouse over an image and tick the box at the top left. Select all the screens you want this way and click Capture in the bar at the bottom.
While the screenshot is being taken, the image shows “Capturing…”. Shortly afterwards, the new image appears.
Why it sometimes takes a while
If the screen is in use, it holds off on the screenshot. That way, no amounts or remarks from donors end up in an image. The screen won't take a screenshot in these cases:
- A donation is in progress, or a donation page is open.
- Someone has touched the screen in the last 15 seconds.
The Studio then shows “Screen in use…”. The screen keeps trying by itself for two minutes. If it's in use for that long, the request ends without an image and with the note “Screen in use”. In that case, click Retry a little later.
If no screenshot arrives
| Note | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Screen offline | The screen can't be reached. You can only take screenshots again once it's online. |
| App update needed | The app on the device is too old for screenshots. In the detail view, App then shows “Update the app to take screenshots”. If the device shows “Update available”, tap Install now there. |
| No response | The screen didn't respond in time. Click Retry. |
| Screen in use | Someone was donating or typing on the screen until the very end. Click Retry a little later. |
| Failed | The screenshot didn't work, and the screen gives the reason. Click Retry. |
| Not captured | The Studio couldn't request the screenshot. The reason is shown below. |
On the Screens page, the note appears in the image. In a screen's detail view, it appears as a message at the top of the page. There, you take another screenshot with New screenshot.
You can take a screenshot of a screen at most every ten seconds. Each community can take at most 60 screenshots per hour.
Viewing and saving earlier screenshots
In a screen's detail view, below the large image, you'll see when and by whom the screenshot was taken. Earlier screenshots follow below; clicking one shows it large. Download screenshot saves the image to your computer. Screenshot and Template switch between the image and the start page of the template.
If your community's subscription has ended, the second button is called Out of service. By default, the large image then only shows a screenshot that was taken after the subscription ended. You can still take screenshots. The screenshot shows what can really be seen on the screen.
