What happens if the internet goes down?
ScreensA screen doesn't need the internet every second. If the connection drops, it keeps showing what it loaded last. As soon as the connection is back, it fetches the latest version by itself.
What the screen shows without internet
- The last loaded template stays on screen, with all images, logos and backgrounds, even after the device restarts.
- The prayer times keep running. The screen has stored them for the next 30 days and switches to the new day by itself at midnight. Details are in Are the prayer times correct without internet?
- A small “Offline” badge appears at the bottom right. If the device has internet but can't reach the Studio, it says “Studio unreachable”. The display itself stays unobstructed.
Donations without internet
Card donations need a connection. If someone taps the donate button without internet, “No internet connection” appears in the middle of the screen with the sentence “Donating is not possible right now. Please try again later.” The notice disappears after a few seconds or when touched. It appears in the language you've chosen for the screens. A payment on the card terminal only starts once the connection is back.
What you see in the Studio
- After 90 seconds without a signal, the screen shows “No signal for … min”.
- After five minutes, it shows “Offline since …” with the time, and the image fades.
- Changes you make in the meantime are applied by the screen as soon as it's back online.
- Screenshots are only possible again once the screen is online.
- In the history, you can later see how long the outage lasted.
If a screen stays offline
- Step 1: Check on site whether the device has power and is switched on.
- Step 2: Check whether the Wi-Fi works, for example with a phone in the same spot.
- Step 3: Restart the device. Then open the SadaqaNow app if it doesn't start by itself. It first shows the last loaded template.
