How does a donation work at the screen?
Donations and campaignsAt the screen, a short flow guides people through the donation: choose a purpose, choose an amount, pay at the terminal. Here you can see what donors see along the way and what you can set in the Studio.
The flow
- Step 1: The person taps “Donate now”.
- Step 2: They choose one of the entry cards, “Local donation” or “Our campaigns”. For campaigns, they choose one with Select.
- Step 3: They tap one of the fixed amounts or choose Any amount and enter one themselves. Entry stops at €10,000.
- Step 4: Depending on the template, they can also add a short message. This is optional.
- Step 5: The screen shows “Please pay at the terminal”. The person holds their card or smartphone to the terminal.
- Step 6: Once the payment is confirmed, “Thank you for your donation” appears. This is followed by the payment receipt with the date, time and a reference and, if available, a QR code for the SumUp receipt. The screen returns after 30 seconds at the latest.
If something goes wrong
- While the screen is waiting for the payment, the person can stop with Cancel.
- If the payment is cancelled or declined, the screen shows “Payment not completed”. It returns after 45 seconds at the latest.
- If the confirmation takes longer, it shows “The confirmation is taking longer. Please do not pay again.” The result is then still checked with SumUp, even if the screen restarts in the meantime.
- As long as a payment is open, the screen won't start a second one.
- Without an internet connection, the screen doesn't accept donations.
- If your community's subscription has ended, the screen shows “This screen is temporarily out of service. Donations are not possible here at the moment.” It declines a donation that has just been started with “Donations are not possible at this screen at the moment.” Find out more in Cancel the subscription.
What the messages on the screen mean is explained in What to do if the terminal doesn't respond?
